On August 30, some Far Rockaway youth enjoyed a special trip to Dorney Park in Allentown, PA courtesy of Navillus Contracting, a NYC-based unionized contracting company, who is currently working with the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) at Arverne’s Ocean Bay Apartments - Oceanside to restore and repair the complex that was devastated by Superstorm Sandy. The contractor worked with the Ocean Bay Garden Green Committee to send the children on this special trip as a thank you to the community for their patience and understanding during the construction project. “As Navillus Contracting continues to restore the development devastated by Superstorm Sandy, we are honored to have the opportunity to give back to a community that has gone through so much devastation,” said Donal O’Sullivan, founder and chief executive officer of Navillus Contracting.

As news outlet, DnaInfo reported back in February 2016: “NYCHA, which has long come under fire from residents for a backlog of delays in fixing maintenance and security problems, began working with residents of Ocean Bay, formerly known as the Edgemere Houses, in 2013 to discuss ways to improve the buildings, which were built in the 1950s. Officials said the cost to overhaul the complex, which includes 24 buildings, is around $174 million to be used over 20 years. Work includes roof and boiler replacement, kitchen improvements and safety upgrades, officials said.”
