Whether you’ve got your buffalo wings and you’re ready to watch the 52nd installment of seeing the best teams go head to head in one of America’s favorite pastimes, or you’re taking a stand and boycotting due to political statements, or because you’d rather see anyone play but the Philadelphia Eagles or once again, the New England Patriots, the big game is this Sunday, February 4. And there’s plenty going on to celebrate around town.

The big game will kick off at 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on NBC. The Eagles will be taking on the Patriots. For those who aren’t interested in much but the commercials and halftime show, this year’s performer is Justin Timberlake.

Still need some grub for that game day party at home? Local caterers have got you covered. Boardwalk Pizzeria is running game day specials for two large plain pies or one large pie and 20 wings for $30.99. You can also order three-foot heroes. Boardwalk offers free delivery around town, including to Breezy Point, so they can bring the party to you. Call 347-619-8002 to place your orders. Want something a little more for a bigger party? Ludwigs Catering is a hot choice with specials on a Make-Your-Own-Fajita package for $295, an Anytime-Anywhere BBQ package for $285 or an Italian Sunday Feast package for $275. All include paper goods and all the condiments you need. Ludwigs also has your favorite six-foot heroes with all the fixin’s from $145 to $165 per hero. Call 718-634-4939 to place your orders a few days before the big game. Cuisine By Claudette also has catering packages including a taco station package for $190, a wings and sliders package for $150 and a la carte tray options. Want to get out for the day? Plenty of local bars and restaurants are holding specials during the game. In Breezy Point, the BayHouse will have a $30 open bar and buffet special, plus fun giveaways during the game. In Roxbury, the AOH’s Hibernian will have the game on 80-foot and 60-foot screens while serving up $2 beers, bucket specials, shot specials and a free buffet. In Rockaway, head to The Wharf for a $30 open bar special for domestic beers and well drinks, plus a $5 food menu all night for your pub favorites like sliders, wings, mozzarella sticks and more.  Jameson’s Pub will be running their typical football Sunday special of half-priced drinks and appetizers during the game.  For $50 per person, Community House will have a buffet of pulled pork sliders, mac and cheese balls and wings, plus an open bar of well liquor, house wine and beer from kick-off until the end of the game.

This year, in response to the early-season controversy of football players kneeling during the National Anthem, the Belle Harbor Yacht Club (BHYC) is taking a stand. They’re hosting a “Please Stand” party in honor of veterans. Game pools are in play, and food and drinks will be served. The game will also be on, but those at the BHYC say it won’t be as “super” this year. “Watch commercials and notice the products we'll avoid this year! Support our Veterans,” a party invite reads.

Just want to watch the game over a few drinks? Consider stopping by local favorites like Rogers, Kerry Hills, Brendan’s Bar, Healy’s Pub or others to have a few and catch the game on TV.
