Nature and Wildlife Activities
On Friday, September 4, at 11 a.m., look out for NYC Parks Urban Park Rangers at Beach 59th Playground as they provide nature and wildlife-related activities and engagement. Activities may include nature art, scavenger hunts, physical challenges, and more.
Paddle Out/Jog for Jacob Blake
In response to the shooting of Jacob Blake in Wisconsin, Black Surfing Rockaway will be holding a paddle out/jog on September 5, 9 a.m. starting on Beach 116th Street. Paddle to Beach 109th Street, get out of the water, leave your board and jog to beach 100th Street, place a flower down, run back to 109th Street, get your board and paddle back to Beach 116th Street to join for a circle. Community Wash & Dry
On Saturday, September 5, Kingdom Ambassadors Global Ministries is giving away laundry service at Laundry Land (3225 Beach Channel Drive) between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. First come, first served. Giveaway covers up to $8 per family of free laundry service.
New Visions Back to School Jam
On Saturday, September 5, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., New Visions IV, with community partners, is holding an event with info on school openings, community resources, mask giveaways, art projects, games, prizes and more. The event takes place at O'Donohue Park on Beach 14th and Seagirt Blvd.
Community Board 14
The next virtual CB14 meeting is set for Tuesday, September 8 at 7 p.m. Discuss local issues including the 2022 capital and expense budget priorities list, youth programs, a St. John’s Community Health Needs Assessment, NYC Parks’ temporary art installation on Beach 110th. The Community Boathouse is back! Kayaking programs are now taking place at Bay Breeze Park on Beach 88th Street and the bay. Open paddles take place every Saturday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunset paddles take place on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to walk up, sign up and spend some time exploring Jamaica Bay. Zumba Under the Stars
Zumba with Lisa G is back at the Beach 108th Hockey Rink on Thursdays at 7 p.m. Due to social distancing, maximum allowance is 50 people, so allowance is first come first served. Bring a mask and enjoy dancing the night away.
Kevin “Soupy” Campbell is back with yoga on the beach. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, join him on Beach 104th at 8:30 a.m. to get your Om on.
