Normally this page would be full of events and happenings around town. With Coronavirus causing most, if not all events and meetings to be canceled, we can only list a limited number of events that are virtual or with social distancing in mind.

 

Parks & Public Safety Meeting

On Thursday, September 10 at 7 p.m., join in on the Parks & Public Safety committee zoom meeting to discuss plans for the nature preserve from Beach 56th Place to Beach 44th Street. Remembering 9/11 at Tribute Park

Tribute Park will reopen on Friday, September 11. This year’s ceremony, which usually begins around 8:30 a.m., will be scaled back this year due to coronavirus restrictions. Only about 50 guests will be permitted, and all will be required to wear masks. The roses on the compass will be pre-positioned and other parts of the ceremony will be scaled back with Covid guidelines in mind. However, after the ceremony, the park will be open all day for all to take time to reflect on the events of that tragic day.

 

9/11 Memorial Prayer

On Friday, September 11, join the 911 NYPD Class, community clergy, community council members and more on the Beach 116th Street boardwalk as they pay tribute to members of service whose lives were lost on 9/11/01.

 

Jamaica Bay Festival

The Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy, American Littoral Society and partners are excited to host the 3rd Annual Jamaica Bay Festival, an In Your Neighborhood program on City of Water Day, Saturday, September 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In order to host a safe and inclusive experience due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Festival will look a little different this year. The schedule includes some limited in-person activities like kayaking, scheduled programs, self-guided activities and live video from events throughout the day. Schedule subject to change. Go Paddle!

The Community Boathouse is back! Kayaking programs are now taking place at Bay Breeze Park on Beach 88th Street and the bay. Open paddles take place every Saturday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunset paddles take place on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to walk up, sign up and spend some time exploring Jamaica Bay. Kayaks and lifejackets provided. Social distancing and masks required when in groups. Follow the Community Boathouse Rockaway Beach on Facebook for more info.

Food Help for Seniors/Disabled

Are you a senior or disabled person who lives between Beach 149th and Beach 96th Street and unable to get food during the pandemic? Contact Lew Simon or Jeanette M. Garramone for help at 718-

Beach Yoga

Kevin "Soupy" Campbell is back with yoga on the beach. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, join him on Beach 104th at 8:30 a.m. to get your Om on.
