Normally this page would be full of events and happenings around town. With Coronavirus causing most, if not all events and meetings to be canceled, we can only list a limited number of events that are virtual or with social distancing in mind.
Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery
On Friday, October 30, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., the FDNY will be at the Arverne Stop and Shop (70-20 RBB) to educate the public about the importance of working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. The FDNY Fire Safety Education Team will be distributing fire safety educational resources.
On Saturday, October 31, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., gather on the boardwalk at Beach 86th Street for a Halloween beach cleanup! Rockaway Beach Civic Association, The Heart of Rockaway (THOR) and American Littoral Society are hosting this event. There will be treats and chalk art and costumes are encouraged, along with masks of course. Community service hours are available to those who need it.
Trunk or Treat
The Hip Hop Trunk or Treat Committee features a day of Halloween fun for the family. Head to the Papa John’s Parking Lot (49-01 Beach Channel Dr.) between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 31 to see cars decorated for the holiday. There will be candy, prizes, giveaways, a DJ and more. Costumes are encouraged for a chance to win a prize.
AB Studios Halloween Show
Starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, AB Studios (111-22 RBB) will be hosting a concert featuring Razorwave, Charged for Battle, The Errorists, Revels Engine, Hopeless Otis, Brian Kish’s Lounge Pants and more. This event is BYOB, no cover charge. Grill will be open for those who want to cook.
From dusk ‘til dead, head to Rustwoods behind Whit’s End on Beach 97th Street for a night of live music by Kuff & The Buttheads and others, magic, burlesque, gogo dancers, DJ music, a $1000 cash prize for best costume and more.
Early voting is on! Rockaway’s local early voting location is the Rockaway YMCA on Beach 73rd Street. Voting times vary by day. Saturdays and Sunday, polls are open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m./4 p.m. Early voting will be open through November 1. Election day is November 3.
On Sunday, November 1, the Graybeards are hosting their annual blood drive. Between 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., head to St. Camillus (180 Beach 100th Street) to donate. Walk-ins permitted but appointments preferred. Register at NYBC.org or call 516-478-5023.
