Meet the Candidates CC D31

A special election will be taking place on February 23, 2021 for the next District 31 City Council member. On Thursday, December 17 at 7 p.m., get to know the candidates at this virtual meeting hosted by the Sojourner Truth Democratic Club. Tides of Joy Toy Drive

On Saturday, December 19, the Far Rock Greek Council is hosting a fun holiday event featuring pictures with Santa, activities, games, music and a pop-up shop featuring local vendors. They will also be collecting monetary donations and toys to give to those in need. The drive takes place from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 14-25 Central Ave in Far Rockaway.


Santa at the Little North Pole

Santa Claus is back and will be giving out toys and goodies to kids in cars as they pass by the Little North Pole. Drive by 144-03 Neponsit Ave from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 18 too santa! Cars can line up starting at Beach 145th and Neponsit Ave.

Think you have Covid-19? Find out. To find testing sites, head to  or text COVID test to 85548. Councilman Eric Ulrich’s office (114-12 Beach Channel Drive) is also offering self-testing services on Friday, December 18 and Saturday, December 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., for free. Results available in 24-48 hours.


Resiliency in Rockaway Series

On Friday, December 18, join RISE in this exciting virtual Living Classroom series called Resiliency in Rockaway! In this three-week long after-school program, tailored to middle schoolers, you will hear from knowledgeable, Rockaway educators about the topics of climate change, marine science, and the importance of filter feeders. This is a great opportunity for you to collaborate with students across the peninsula on fun activities and learn how the unique ecosystems that make up the community are adapting to our changing world. Food Help for Seniors/Disabled

Are you a senior or disabled person who lives from Arverne to Neponsit and unable to get food during the pandemic? Contact Lew Simon or Jeanette M. Garramone at 718-945-1216. If you are able to donate any food items to this cause, you can also reach out.
