We have arrived in the most breathtaking month of the year.  Thank you for the most magnificent summer. As we move slowly into the next season, let us be grateful for this moment. For those who have lost your loved ones, please know all year long our thoughts are with you. Grieve for as long as you need. You will know when to let go and move forward slowly. We may not know your pain, but we have empathy for you and your loved ones. As I write this column, I am reminded that 9/11 is this Sunday. It will be a weekend of remembering and honoring all those who have passed away on this terrible day....

Feeling Alright

By Paulette Mancuso What does it take to feel alright every day? A great check-in is assessing how we feel when we first wake up. Not only in reference to being well-rested or getting enough sleep, but also mood-, sensory-, energy-wise. And then thinking back on the day before and to see how a good thing you did, for example, like eat well, helped you to feel healthy with energy the next morning. And, on the flip side, how what something you may have done or engaged in, made you feel less than healthy or sad the next morning. Seems so obvious, yet we sometimes don’t really pay attention. The...

Taking Time Off

It’s been a beautiful summer with so many moments of awe and beauty. If you are lucky enough to take a mini vacation, you have reset your nervous system and are now ready for the coming Fall. We are blessed here in Rockaway to live by the ocean in a tightly knit community that supports one another when things get tough. Many of you have suffered from loss and we continue to send our loving prayers your way. Healing takes time. Having seen much loss this past summer, we begin to treasure our moments together, knowing this is all we have at this time. Every year, my husband and I escape to Lake...

The Full Moon

What a vision all week of the Moon waxing to its fullest. As I sat out every night basking in its light I thought about the passage of time and how before you know it, I will be out looking for the next full Moon. The word “bask” is usually used in relation to the sun’s warmth and light; the Moon’s light is just as warming, maybe not on the skin but definitely to the Heart. How is the Moon’s light warming to the heart? Did you ever stand on the beach under the light of the Full Moon and in direct line with its brilliant illumination on the ocean? You can trace the light energy from the Moon...

Creating a theme, story, focus or sequence in a yoga class is a beautiful way to display who you are and tell your story. You will also reach people who may relate to your theme and feel comfort in knowing they are not alone. We often get stuck in our old ways or habits and forget how powerful we can become when we let things flow organically. My experience is limited and I have lots of room for growth but I am beginning to have the self-esteem and knowledge to know we all have the power to help one another heal and feel really good about ourselves. It has taken me a lifetime to know who I am...

Choice and Non-Resistance

If you have ever found yourself in a situation that suddenly seems wrong, you will know what I’m talking about here. It all comes back to being present, being aware, being open to checking “is this good in my life?” for big things, little things, life things and then creating a process to change a “no” answer to that question that may come up.  All four:  presence, awareness, inquiry, change.  Seems so simple, yet we often don’t take the time to check in.  More and more I do this.  I think it is how I arrived to a place of peace, love and joy. I haven’t had a manicure and a pedicure since early...

Blessed With Seaside Living

Summertime in Rockaway Beach is full of great energy and so many wonderful happenings. It truly is our time to shine and enjoy the company of good friends and family. We are blessed to live near the water and be in a community where we feel safe and happy.  There are also times we feel exhausted from the busyness of our social calendar. It’s a gift to know when to stay home and rest your body and mind. FOMO is a real thing and we don’t want to miss anything. My Mom always did her best to tell us we need not be at every party but we sure did try to attend most of them. Life is short and every...

Listen to the Inner Voice

“Listen to the wind, it talks. Listen to the silence, it speaks. Listen to your heart, it knows.” Make yourself happy. “Life is short” is an overused phrase but when you get it you may realize that there is no time to waste to work on a relationship or look for a new means of making money or shifting your mindset to make yourself feel better. Whatever it is, anything is possible. Mending old ways, reinventing your image, jump starting an idea—all doable. Before you know it, another year goes by and another and another!  The only way we tap into who we are, what we need, what we want and how...

We Can Do Hard Things

I count my blessings every day even when things are not going so smoothly. Glennon Doyle wrote the book Untamed and her mantra was, “we can do hard things.” Take a deep breath and know that you got this! Writing this column is really hard for me. I am not a writer, I don’t proofread, I just put on paper whatever comes to me. June has been a difficult month for many perhaps due to the transitioning back into a normal life. What is normal? Feels great to see and be with people who I haven’t seen or hugged in over a year. Yes Kevin, I am hugging! We are catching and releasing all our emotions and...
