10th Annual Rockstock & Barrels Festival

Saturday, June 18 is the Tenth anniversary of the Rockstock & Barrels Festival. Boarders and St James Clothing have been bringing this event FREE for 10 straight years with the help of the NYC Parks Dept., all the fantastic bands over the years and then you, all the patrons that attend and make this one of the best events on the Rockaway Peninsula, hands down! And So It Begins – Chaos

It was a great event last Friday, as they had one of numerous beach opening ceremonies across the city. Everyone smiling and even some self-congratulatory back-patting going around, but none of this ever hinted at the annual and somewhat comical confusion of the Parks Dept. PEP officers’ behavior. I seriously question how so many of the staff just cannot be on the same page. Surely they all meet in the same room to get advised on protocol and the ACTUAL rules of the beach. Foam-Top Frenzy

Foam tops have become ubiquitous world-wide as families buy them for their kids to learn on, surf schools use them for giving lessons, all the while knowing that if they get hit by the board, hopefully not much harm will result. But these days with the performance level of foamies improving, even veteran surfers are snatching them up at record rates. Then you throw in the fact that Costco sells the WaveStorm brand for $99, now you have a perfect storm of foamies being everywhere. And here’s a little fact for you, the WaveStorm foamie is the most owned surfboard in America, selling over half...

So an article came out in the latest release of Surfing Magazine, “The 10 Most Important Waves In America”, they go on to write “To be clear, it’s not Best Waves — because every dog has its day — it’s Important Waves….We’ve chosen waves based on their modern-day impact…”, and have a guess which beach got the top honors? LONG BEACH, NEW YORK! And here’s why they got the pick: “It’s the best wave close to the most important city in the world.” “If you like big cities and hypothermia, you’ll love Long Beach. Situated just one hour from The Big Apple, the south-facing beaches of #LongBeachNYnotCA...
