HALLOWEEN IN NYC 1931

Halloween was introduced to America by Irish immigrants in the 1900s. This is also when decorations began. Halloween costumes started to appear in stores during the 1930s. This couple is dressed up as the Patriotic Uncle Sam. The greeting, “Trick or Treat,” started in the 1950s. On the back of this photo, it says, “Algonquin Hotel NYC 1931.” What’s most interesting: an ample size of NYC Irish immigrants lived in Rockaway Beach! Hmmm! Trick or treat?!
