CORNELL HOMESTEAD 1690
Richard Cornell, a relative of Ezra Cornell, the founder of Cornell University, built the first homestead on a bluff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean at Far Rockaway in 1690. The house was located below the present area of Beach 20th Street and Plainview Avenue in the old Wavecrest section of Far Rockaway. The sketch is from the 1918 “Bellot’s History of the Rockaways” by Alfred Bellot.
Katie Lucev is the daughter of the late Rockaway Beach Historian, Emil R. Lucev, Sr. (1933-2018)
