Normally this page would be full of events and happenings around town. With Coronavirus causing most, if not all events and meetings to be canceled, we can only list a limited number of events that are virtual or with social distancing in mind.


Virtual Knitalong

Rock Away Pens
Writing Workshop

Serious about writing? The Rock Away Pens, a creative writing workshop, now on Zoom, has two openings. Each week the group critiques two members’ sub-missions as the writers progress towards publication. The workshop is free. For more info, email: Rockawaypens@gmail.com  


Graybeards Pot-A-Gold

The Graybeards annual fundraiser is on. Consider purchasing a $100 ticket to be in the running and help support this great nonprofit organization in their efforts to support the community. The 50-50 drawing will be held on January 30. Last year’s winner took home more than $50,000! For info, call 718-634-6812.


Sea Changes Rockaway Sundays

Want to join in a global movement of jumping into the ocean every week? Head to Beach 91st every Sunday at 2 p.m. to join along with a group of regular polar plungers!


Get Tested

Think you have Covid-19? Find out. To find testing sites, head to Nyc.gov/covidtest or text COVID test to 85548. Councilman Eric Ulrich’s office (114-12 Beach Channel Drive) is also offering self-testing services on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., for free. Results available in 24-48 hours.


Get Vaccinated

The coronavirus vaccine is now open to some New Yorkers in various fields like health care, education, first responders or those ages 65 and older. To find out where you can get vaccinated, head to nyc.gov/vaccinefinder or to make appointments by phone, call 877-VAX4NYC


Food Help for Seniors/Disabled

Are you a senior or disabled person who lives from Arverne to Neponsit and unable to get food during the pandemic? Contact Lew Simon or Jeanette M. Garramone for help at 718-945-1216. If you are able to donate any canned goods or food items to this cause, you can also reach out.
