Normally this page would be full of events and happenings around town. With Coronavirus causing most, if not all events and meetings to be canceled, we can only list a limited number of events that are virtual or with social distancing in mind.


Kids Trivia Night

Forefront Tutors, a tutoring agency founded in Rockaway is hosting a virtual trivia night for elementary school kids on Thursday, February 11 at 7 p.m. There will be trivia on movies, tv shows, books and music and it’s free to participate. V-Day Half Marathon

Nothing gets your heart pumping like a brisk winter run. Rockapulco Run’s half marathon and post-race brunch are Saturday, February 13. The run starts at 9:30 a.m. on the boardwalk. The location is TBD but St. Camillus is expected to be the headquarters for number pickup. To register, head to www.Rockapulcorun.com 


World Wetlands Day Cleanup

Join the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy, the American Littoral Society, and Assembly Member Jaime R. Williams for a cleanup at Plumb Beach Marsh in Brooklyn on World Wetlands Day. Help remove harmful debris from this important wetland. Meet at Plumb Beach March along the Belt Parkway between 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, February 13 to assist. Gloves, bags, tools will be provided. RSVP by emailing info@jbrpc.org.


Adopt a Valentine’s Bear

The Little North Pole is at it again, this time bringing some love to the community. For a $10 donation, as well as some non-perishable food items, you can get a Valentine’s teddy bear born right at the Little North Pole at 144-03 Neponsit Ave. Mask up, drive by the home between 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., make your donations and receive your bear with its very own personalized birth certificate. All donations go to the St. Camillus food pantry to help feed those in need.


Virtual Knitalong

Join RISE for an online knitalong on Wednesday, February 17 at 2 p.m. All levels welcome. For login info, see: www.riserockaway.org/rise/events/ 


Youth Services and Education Committee

The CB14 Youth Services and Education Committee will meet on Zoom on Wednesday, February 17 at 6 p.m. to discuss after-school activities with the NYPD and in-person learning.  For Zoom access info, check out https://www1.nyc.gov/site/queenscb14/index.page 


Sea Changes Rockaway Sundays

Want to join in a global movement of jumping into the ocean every week? Every Sunday at 2 p.m.  head to the beach or bay and jump on in.

Get Vaccinated

The coronavirus vaccine is now open to some New Yorkers in various fields like health care, education, first responders or those ages 65 and older. To find out where you can get vaccinated, head to nyc.gov/vaccinefinder or to make appointments by phone, call 877-VAX4NYC


Food Help for Seniors/Disabled

Are you a senior or disabled person who lives from Arverne to Neponsit and unable to get food during the pandemic? Contact Lew Simon or Jeanette M. Garramone for help at 718-945-1216. If you are able to donate any canned goods or food items to this cause, you can also reach out.
