SPECIAL OLYMPICS SET FOR POLAR PLUNGE
The Special Olympics is hosting its Annual Rockaway Polar Plunge this year on Saturday, March 20 from 10 a.m. til noon.
Casey Maloney, Director of Development for Special Olympics New York tells us, “So this year we are having the in-person event on Saturday, March 20 but this year it will be a little different. We have changed the location to Beach 94th Street and have strict COVID guidelines.
“Per NYC, State and CDC rules, we will assign time slots for all teams and participants in order to keep the amount of people at the event less than 50 at any given time. Masks are required at all times, sanitizing stations will be set up, and PPE will be provided for those who need it.
“For those who aren’t comfortable or aren’t able to attend, we have a Virtual Option as well! Interested participants can videotape themselves doing their own (safe) version of the plunge and send it in to be combined with all other Virtual Plunges in one fun video to be sent out and posted after the Plunge. We are so excited to have this event this year and support the Athletes from our local community. We need more PPE and larger facilities to get our athletes training and competing again. This event and your support will help our athletes get back in the game.”

The event has been a big fundraiser and goes a long way in helping Special Athletes.
