Beach Flix: Napoleon Dynamite

Beach Flix are back! This Thursday, July 14 at 8:30 p.m., head to Beach 106th with a chair or blanket and enjoy Napoleon Dynamite under the stars. Sponsored by Caracas and the Rockaway Civic Association.

Learn to Paddle 101

On Friday, July 15 at 3 p.m., head to the Seaplane Ramp at Floyd Bennett Field to enjoy a fun “how to” paddle program. Learn to get in and out, go forward, turn, stop and back up a kayak. Dress to get wet, wear shoes that will not fall off, and bring water, sunscreen, and a snack. Kayaks, personal floatation devices, paddles, and instruction provided.

Jamaica Bay Festival

On Saturday, July 16, starting at 8 a.m., enjoy a day of activities around Jamaica Bay with JBRPC. During the Festival, nature and water enthusiasts can paddle in the Kayak Parade, tour restoration sites, see wildlife, learn to fish and go biking or sailing while enjoying the beauty of Jamaica Bay and the surrounding community. Rockaway Market Street

On Saturday, July 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., head under the elevated A train track at Beach 60th for an outdoor market including vendors such as: Blacksmith’s Breads, Edgemere Farm, Horman’s Best Pickles, Mushroom Queens, Rockaway Soda, Saratoga Peanut Butter Company and more! Live music.

SketchRockaway Anniversary

On Saturday, July 16 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., head to the Beach 97th concession to celebrate sketchRockaway’s first anniversary. Sketch, socialize, and hear about future plans for sketchRockaway! All are welcome to stop by and get a free handout to inspire you to give it a try! Open and Free to All – Bring a sketchpad and pen/pencils. Plus check out their display of artwork at the 218 Beach 116 St windows!

Movie Under the Stars: Space Jam

On Saturday, July 16 at 8:30 p.m., head to the Beach 17th boardwalk to enjoy family film Space Jam. ” Michael Jordan makes his starring film debut opposite the celluloid skills of Warner Bros.’ Looney Tunes. Jordan must help the Looney Tunes win a basketball game against a group of outer-space creatures who plan, if they win, to kidnap the Looney Tunes and take them to an interplanetary theme park as the latest attraction.” Bring a chair or blanket to enjoy.

Rockaway Makers Market

On Thursday, July 21 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., heads to the Arverne Cinema (7202 Gouverneur Ave) to shop from local vendors and artists.

Floyd Bennett Field Kayaking

On Saturdays and Sundays at 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., head to Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn for a free kayaking program for beginners. Open to those ages 6 and up. Kayaks and life jackets provided. Bring snacks, water and sunscreen.

Yoga on the Beach with Sonia

Every Saturday at 10 a.m., head to Beach 32nd join yoga instructor Sonia for meditation and movement stretches. Bring a towel, yoga mat, and water.

Hatha Yoga with Soupy

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, head to Beach 102nd at 8:30 a.m. for yoga on the beach with Kevin Soupy Campbell.

Shape Up NYC: Cardio Punch

Every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., join at Beach 59th Street and the boardwalk for a free Cardio Punch fitness class presented by NYC Parks. Bring a towel and water. Punch, hook, and kick to motivating, high-energy music that progress into heart-pumping combinations.
