A Fundraiser for TK
Firefighter Timmy Klein will never be forgotten. That was clear on Sunday, August 7 when much of Rockaway gave up a bright, beautiful beach day to spend the afternoon at the Belle Harbor Yacht Club for the Firefighter Timmy Klein Fundraiser.
From the back deck to the front, the Yacht Club was packed to the brim with friends, family, fellow Ladder 170 firefighters and neighbors of Firefighter Timothy Klein, who died on the job in April. It was all to support the FF Timmy Klein Foundation, something Timmy himself, who was all about giving back, would have wanted. The foundation supports the FDNY Fire Family Transport Foundation and the Fight for Firefighters Foundation, two charities Klein volunteered for.
The event kicked off with a tribute by the FDNY bagpipe band while a fireboat put on a red, white and blue display in the bay behind them. Everyone who attended on Sunday was given a cup bearing his initials, TK, and was able to enjoy food, drinks and music by duo Two Degrees, who come from Ireland. Plus, guests had a chance to enter raffles for about 100 different prizes, from sports tickets and signed memorabilia to bicycles, trips to Puerto Rico and more. A 50/50 was also held, with a prize of $96,000 going home to the winner and toward the charity. The overall event was a wild success with a great turnout for Timmy.
