Pumpkin Patch Channel Excursion

On Friday, August 26 at 9 a.m. head to the North Channel Bridge, Queens, west side parking lot for this energetic paddle past Black Wall Marsh, and appreciate the sanctuary at the heart of the refuge. This trip is six miles. Dress to get wet, wear shoes that will not fall off, and bring water, sunscreen, and a snack. Kayaks, personal floatation devices, paddles, and instruction will be provided. Best Dressed Man in Rockaway Book Signing

On Friday, August 26 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus on Beach 90th Street for a book signing event with Owen Loof! Bring cash or check to purchase a book.. Proceeds benefit charity. Enjoy a performance by the band Fool’s Night Out.

 

Rockaway Market Street

On Saturday, August 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., head under the elevated A train track at Beach 60th for an outdoor market including vendors such as: Blacksmith’s Breads, Edgemere Farm, Horman’s Best Pickles, Mushroom Queens, Rockaway Soda, Saratoga Peanut Butter Company, and more! Live music.

 

Riis Beach Campfire

On Friday, August 26 at 7 p.m., head to the Riis Boardwalk and Bay 6 by the Wise Clock and join the National Park Service to kick off and celebrate the Labor Day Weekend with a beach campfire at Jacob Riis Park! Join rangers as they sing songs, talk about our park and the service, and enjoy the night sky by the ocean. All are welcome!

 

Shorebirding for Beginners

On Saturday, August 27 at 10 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to enjoy a walk with a ranger to the east pond seasonal trail. There you will learn to observe the common shorebirds that migrate through Jamaica Bay.

 

Caribbean Carnival

On Saturday, August 27 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., head to Beach 17th for Senator Sanders’ 4th Annual Caribbean Carnival in the Rockaways. The event celebrates the various cultures, arts, and history of Southeast Queens and traditions through a display of festivities.

 

Storefronts with sketchRockaway!

On Saturday, August 27 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., bring your sketch pad and pencils to Rockaway Beach Blvd. between Beach 92nd-94th and sketch buildings in the area with the group. Stay and socialize after over ice cream or pizza.

 

RB Autism Families BBQ Fundraiser

On Sunday, August 28 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., join RBAF at their annual BBQ Fundraiser at K.O.C. (333 Beach 90th Street). Besides food (take-out/dine-in for $15), there’ll be activities incl. a sensory table, arts & crafts, water dunk tank, face  painting & more! Plus, every child goes home with a  back-to-school gift! Zumba Under the Stars

Lisa G is back every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. leading Zumba classes in the Beach 108th hockey rink, in memory of Lew Simon. Through September 1.

 

Floyd Bennett Field Kayaking

On Saturdays and Sundays at 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., head to Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn for a free kayaking program for beginners. Open to those ages 6 and up. Kayaks and life jackets provided. Bring snacks, water and sunscreen.

 

Yoga on the Beach with Sonia

Every Saturday at 10 a.m., head to Beach 32nd join yoga instructor Sonia for meditation and movement stretches. Bring a towel, yoga mat, and water.
