Final Summer Classic Champs Crowned

The 2022 Summer Classic came to a close on Monday night, August 22,  as Jameson’s captured the Clare Droesch Women’s Open championship 56-42 over Graf-X. Christie Marrone scored 21 and Mei-Lyn Bautista 18 for Jameson’s. Jasmine Nwajei led Graf-X with 13. Also earning the long sleeve tees for Jameson’s are Kaitlin Grant, Kerri White, Anna Savino, Hannah Brown, Shaniece Graves, Kristin Schultz, Saundra Cleckley, and Christine Harnischfeger.

In the first game of the night, DJ’s@Work pulled away from NF Beauty to win the Girls High School championship 62-44. DJ’s was coached by Jimmy Mullen and the champions are Caitlin Mullen, Kaitlyn Nestor, Norah O’Sullivan, Sophia Hoyt, Samantha Kelly, Alexia Mousouroulis, Alexa Nolan, Annie Tully, Gabby Savino, and Kristin Dixon.

Jameson’s almost pulled off the Open League Double but came up short in overtime on Thursday night, August 18, in the Tim Klein Men’s Division 1 championship. Bobby Connors’ shot at the end of regulation which would have won the game, just missed and then JG Electric prevailed in the extra period for an 83-80 win that was one of the best and most exciting championships in memory. Charlie Marquardt had scored 47 in both the quarterfinals and semifinals, and then topped those with 49 in the championship. His teammates are Ryan McDade, Matt Linares, Mark Genovese, Jack Hurley, Ryan Kilgallen, Neil Marquardt, John Timothy, Jimmy Wolfer, and Sean Carroll.

The Division 2 championship was another excellent game with Coastal Real Estate edging JKS Printing 63-56. Ian Byrne led JKS with 20. Brandon Edmund had 29 for Coastal and was joined by Sean Peter Mullen, Nick Abruzzo, Mike Battaglia, Owen Mullen, Mike Tuffey, Aidan Harkins, Nico Allen, TJ Mahoney, Timmy Mills, Matthew Montella, and Michael Langone.

On Wednesday, Mullin Basketball Camp beat The Rockaway Hotel 35-27. Molly Trears had 25 for the Hotel. Callie Mullin poured in 27 for Mullin Basketball Camp and was aided by Dylan Courtney, Caroline Mullin, Addison Heeran, Samantha Cox, Erin Murtagh, Chloe Ostrander, Kate Heegan, and Cassidy Shaffer. The champs were coached by Terence Mullin, Caitlin Mullin, and Matt Courtney.

Thanks to all our directors, coaches, officials, assignors, first aid team, and sponsors, Fr. Bill, Fr. Jim, Msgr. Bracken, Principal Scharbach, and the SFDS rectory staff for another great season. We look forward to season 39 in 2023.
