Riis Beach Campfire

On Friday, September 2 at 7 p.m., head to the Riis Boardwalk and Bay 6 by the Wise Clock and join the National Park in celebrating Gateway’s 50th birthday! Join a park ranger to sing songs, learn about the park, or to just enjoy the campfire, beach, and sunset. Bring an instrument and play along. Bring a blanket or chair to sit on, and dress for the weather. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be canceled. All are welcome!

 

Birding for Beginners

On Saturday, September 3  at 10 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to enjoy a walk to the West Pond and South Garden, while exploring some of the many species of birds that call this wildlife refuge home. Binoculars provided! Space is limited. Call (718) 318-4340 to make a reservation.

 

Rockaway Market Street

On Saturday, September 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., head under the elevated A train track at Beach 60th for an outdoor market including vendors such as: Blacksmith’s Breads, Edgemere Farm, Horman’s Best Pickles, Mushroom Queens, Rockaway Soda, Saratoga Peanut Butter Company, and more! Live music.

 

Anabas Boathouse Fundraiser

On Sunday, September 4, from 6 to 11 p.m., head to the Anabas (1820 Channel Road) in Broad Channel for a fundraiser featuring live music including sea shanties by Shinebone Alley, food, drinks and more. $15 admission helps support the club.

 

Rockaway Cove Paddle

On Wednesday, September 7, at 12:30 p.m., head to Riis Landing to join an NPS guide for a paddle to Rockaway Point and back. This two mile trip follows the scenic bay shore of Rockaway peninsula along the cove toward Rockaway Point. Dress to get wet, wear shoes that will not fall off, and bring water, sunscreen, and a snack. Kayaks, personal floatation devices, paddles, and instruction will be provided.  Call (718) 758-3671 to make a reservation.

 

Floyd Bennett Field Kayaking

On Saturdays and Sundays at 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., head to Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn for a free kayaking program for beginners. Open to those ages 6 and up. Kayaks and life jackets provided. Bring snacks, water and sunscreen.

 

Hatha Yoga with Soupy

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, head to Beach 102nd at 8:30 a.m. for yoga on the beach with Kevin Soupy Campbell.

 

Boardwalk Yoga

On Sunday mornings at 8:30 a.m. on the boardwalk and Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. on the beach, join for deep stretch yoga on Beach 126th with Christina Walker. Donations welcome.

 

Writers Workshop
