Kayak Skills

On Friday, September 9 at 1 p.m., head to Riis Landing to learn a safe, efficient way to paddle a kayak with a Park Ranger. Get meaningful feedback on your technique. Paddlers of all skill levels welcome. Dress to get wet, wear shoes that will not fall off, and bring water, sunscreen, and a snack. Kayaks, personal floatation devices, paddles, and instruction will be provided. Call (718) 758-3671 to make a reservation.


Rockaway Market Street

On Saturday, September 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., head under the elevated A train track at Beach 60th for an outdoor market including vendors such as: Blacksmith’s Breads, Edgemere Farm, Horman’s Best Pickles, Mushroom Queens, Rockaway Soda, Saratoga Peanut Butter Company, and more! Live music.


Edgemere Cleanup

On Saturday, September 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., meet at Edgemere Farm (385 Beach 45th) to join in on a community cleanup. Free food by Gum’s Jerk.


SketchRockaway! On 96th

On Saturday, September 10, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., bring your sketch pad and pens/ pencils or paints and join sketchRockaway! as they draw inspiration from the Beach 96th businesses Bernadettes/ TheCradleNYC/ MoonLot.


Riis Kayaking for Beginners

On Saturday, September 10 at 1 p.m., head to Riis Landing to try out kayaking. For ages 6 and up with an adult. No reservation required. Dress to get wet, wear shoes that will not fall off, and bring water, sunscreen and a snack. Kayaks, personal floatation devices, paddles and instruction will be provided.


Full Harvest Moon Hike

On Saturday, September 10 at 7:30 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge and with only the full moon, stars, and a ranger to guide you, set off on a hike. Hear about a traditional name for this moon and look for signs of the celebration it represents. All ages are welcome. Dress for the conditions. Call (718) 318-4340 to register.


Tribute Park 9/11 Ceremony

On Sunday, September 11 at 8:30 a.m., head to Tribute Park on Beach 116th to remember those who were lost on 9/11, twenty-one years ago with Rockaway’s annual ceremony. Music by Aerial Acoustics and vocals by Chazmond Peacock.


Rockaway Makers Market

On Sunday, September 11 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., head to the Arverne Cinema (72-02 Gouverneur Ave, to shop from various local vendors.


Community Board 14 Meeting

On Tuesday, September 13 at 7:15 p.m., head to the Knights of Columbus (333 Beach 90th Street) for the return of in-person CB14 meetings. Updates from Sanitation, committee reports and more.


Floyd Bennett Field Kayaking

On Saturdays and Sundays at 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., head to Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn for a free kayaking program for beginners. Open to those ages 6 and up. Kayaks and life jackets provided. Bring snacks, water and sunscreen.
