Kicking Things Up A Notch! SFDS 2022 CYO Soccer Season Begins

As Summer draws to a close and school begins, the soccer season is back, to help ease the transition. Players, coaches and parents arrived at their opening games, in full-force this past weekend, and while not all of the game outcomes were victories, the teamwork, camaraderie, sportsmanship and competition on display, certainly were.

A few friendly rivalries picked up right where they left off. The 8th grade girls, in their last season together as CYO teammates, defeated Blessed Trinity 6-1 on Saturday night. Olivia Teich led the way with five goals. She was helped by teammates Morgan Harkins and Maria Tomassetti, as their deft passing assisted in providing Olivia with her scoring opportunities. Elle Riches got in on the fun, with a goal of her own. Alexa Hernandez and Maddie Youngberg shut things down defensively, with Erin Hogg turning in a strong game at goal.

The 5th grade boys were under the lights on Friday night, also against Blessed Trinity, in a game that pitted the last two Diocesan champs against each other. SFDS came away victorious, by a score of 2-1, in a hard-fought game. Goals were scored by T.J. Gampero and Timmy Stines. The defense was led by Kevin Papadopoulos, Finn Keane and Matt GaNun, with Dominic Mazzola and Luca DiGennaro splitting time at goal.
