Flowers of Hope Making Strides

On Sunday, October 9, in Brookville Park, Rosedale held their annual Breast Cancer Walk by Flowers of Hope NY, in partnership with the American Cancer Society and New York City Parks.

Gina Narcisa Vasquez founded Flowers of Hope NY when her 17-year-old son was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. Now he is 34 years old  and cancer free. Flowers of Hope has a cancer support group, mental health workshops and fitness classes like Zumba and Yoga. Sunday’s walk brought out survivors who gave testimonials, and supporters. Local elected officials Queens Borough President Donavan Richards, Senator James Sanders Jr., Assemblyman Khaleel M Anderson and Councilwoman Selvena Brooks-Powers all showed up to show their support. Aside from the walk, there were family friendly activities throughout the day and entertainment. Participants were asked to wear pink to help raise awareness.
