SALUTE TO JEWISH VETERANS & VISIT FROM WEST POINT AT TEMPLE BETH-EL

On Saturday, October 22, Temple Beth-El of Rockaway Park will honor Veteran’s Day a little early with special guests from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.  Everyone is invited to this special event by registering at the number below.

Temple Beth-El is very excited to welcome Major David Frommer, Jewish Chaplain at West Point, along with Jewish Officers and Cadets and Jewish Veterans. They will be arriving in time to participate in Services at 10 a.m. and a youth presentation and program which begin at 11 a.m.  This will be followed by lunch and a question-and-answer period in the Temple Social Hall.

Major Frommer has a distinguished background. Graduating from Yale University in 2004, after completing four semesters of Modern Hebrew, he received his B.A. with Honors. Following that, he enlisted as a Lone Soldier in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) which he served with distinction in the West Bank. He continued his Hebrew studies earning a master’s degree in Sacred Music from the Jewish Institute of Religion in both Jerusalem and New York. While still in the seminary, he was commissioned in the New York National Guard as a Chaplain candidate and completed the Chaplain “Basic Officer Leadership Course” at the U.S. Army Chaplain Center and School at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Following that he was the first Cantor assigned overseas, providing religious support for Jewish personnel stationed in Afghanistan, Kuwait, Jordan and Qatar. On his return to the U.S. and additional assignments by the army, Major Frommer became cantor at synagogues in Santa Rosa and San Francisco in California. He transferred to the Regular Army and began his current assignment as Jewish Chaplain at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.  At the present time he lives at West Point with his wife and their three children.
