On Saturday, October 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., head under the elevated A train track at Beach 60th for an outdoor market including vendors such as: Blacksmith’s Breads, Edgemere Farm, Horman’s Best Pickles, Mushroom Queens, Rockaway Soda, Saratoga Peanut Butter Company, and more! Live music.

 

Sandy Anniversary Cleanup & Planting

On Saturday, October 22 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., head to Beach 44th and the Boardwalk to join RISE in this dune planting and restoration project in honor of the upcoming 10th anniversary of Hurricane Sandy. Students can receive community service hours. This event is rain or shine, so please dress accordingly.

 

Resilient Rockaway Panel Discussion

On Saturday, October 22 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., head to the Rockaway YMCA (207 Beach 73rd) for a panel on the 10-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, featuring local elected officials and organizations.

 

MoonLot Pumpkin Patch

On Saturday, Oct. 22 and Sunday, Oct. 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., head to MoonLot (189 Beach 96th St) to pick and decorate your own pumpkins.

 

Fall Freedom Fest

On Saturday, October 22, starting at noon, head to Callie’s, Pico, Harbor Light or Jamesons and buy a $20 bracelet to access all day drink and food specials at each establishment, plus live music at each venue. For the full schedule, see their social media pages.

 

Larry Racioppo’s “Sandy Diary” Reception

On Saturday, October 22 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., head to the RISE Center (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd) for the opening reception of Larry’s photo exhibit on Hurricane Sandy. Peruse his collection of before and after the storm, and exchange stories of our collective experiences. The display will also be open Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

 

Rockaway Civic Association Meeting

On Tuesday, October 25 at 6:30 p.m., head to the Belle Harbor Yacht Club (533 Beach 126th)  for the general membership meeting. Hear updates from elected officials, candidates, the precinct and from board members.

 

100th Precinct Community Council

On Wednesday, October 26 at 7 p.m., the 100th Precinct Community Council hosts its monthly meeting on Zoom. For meeting access, email vp100pctcc@gmail.com

 

Sandy Book Signing

On Thursday, October 27 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., head to the Rockaway Hotel on Beach 108th for a book signing featuring author Marty Ingram, former chief of the Point Breeze Fire Department, who penned a book about his experience with Hurricane Sandy, “Flood, Fire and a Superstorm.”

 

BCVFD Haunted House

Starting Thursday, October 27 through Halloween, head to the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department (15 Noel Road) to experience some hauntings at their annual haunted house. Open 8:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Thursday, and 7:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. from Friday through Monday. Tickets are $15 or $50 for groups of 4. Must be 13 or older to enter without supervision.
