Rally for Rails

Dear Editor:

Thanks for your coverage of the Rally for Rails held on the Rockaway Beach boardwalk on Sunday, October 9.  It was gratifying to see all the elected officials and community leaders who showed up to express their support for better public transit for the Rockaways and all of Queens.

It’s crazy that we have to fight for the reuse of an existing railroad right-of-way in the middle of a transit desert, but that’s what happens when politics and special interests get in the way of common sense and the democratic process.

Whether you believe in better access to efficient transportation, a cleaner environment, or simply that Queens residents should decide the future use of the Rockaway Beach Branch right-of-way, please consider showing your support by signing the petition at www.QueensLink.org .  It’s now or never.
