A Blessed Christmas Lighting for SFDS

Albeit chilly, it was a blessed evening at the St. Francis de Sales Prayer Garden on Wednesday, December 14, as crowds gathered around for the annual lighting of the church’s memorial Christmas trees, angels and life-sized Nativity scene.

The SFDS Choir, led by Music Director Michael Fontana, led the crowd in carols to start off the night. Shortly after, Santa Claus arrived with some help of the Point Breeze Volunteer Fire Department and greeted all of the children in attendance. Then St. Francis priests Fr. Bill Sweeney and Fr. Jim Cunningham led a prayer and said a few words. In honor of his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife, Isabella, Deacon Vincent LaGamba had the special honor of pushing the button to illuminate the large display after a countdown.

Following the lighting, all were invited to enjoy cookies and hot cocoa across the street.
