NJPW News and More

Happy New Year to all our readers! Let’s get into the latest wrestling news!

Last week, we reported that former WWE Superstar Sasha Banks, now performing under her real name Mercedes Varnado, was scheduled to appeared at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s (NJPW) Annual Event “Wrestle Kingdom” on January 4, 2023 in Tokyo, Japan. We now have new information that Mercedes will not be appearing alone, as we have heard, Tag Team partner former WWE Superstar Naomi will be alongside Mercedes at the Wrestle Kingdom Event. But it doesn’t end there, as we also heard reports that current WWE Superstar Bayley is also scheduled to be at the event. Now, we are not sure why Bayley is scheduled to appear, and if she will be acting in any official capacity for the WWE. But possibly seeing the three superstars coming out together in such a huge event will definitely be exciting.

Staying with New Japan Pro Wrestling, its being reported that Will Ospreay, the current IWGP Heavyweight Champion, will not be accepting any offers from any other promotion, as his contract is scheduled to expire in another year. Will has said he is very happy working for NJPW, and he is paid very well by them. Will also enjoys living in the UK and doesn’t seem like he wants to change that.

Now, still staying with NJPW, we have also reported that current WWE Superstar Karl Anderson, who is also the current NJPW “Never Open Weight Champion,” has gone on record saying that he praises WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H, for allowing him to complete in NJPW. I do feel it’s a great move for Triple H to allow a contracted star to be able to work for another promotion. Hopefully, we will be seeing more of this inter-promotional work in the near future.

The Question of the Week comes from Johnny H. in Far Rockaway and he asked, “Who do you think will win between Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom?” Johnny, I’m going to say Kenny Omega beats Will Ospreay for the New Japan Pro Wrestling “IWGP Heavyweight Championship.” I feel it’s time for Kenny Omega to regain the crown and be champion once again. Thank you for your great question!
