Anonymous Anger Dear Editor:  (Re: Boyleing Points) We all get you have nothing to write. Perhaps you can address the elephant in the room or are you above that.  The watering hole, known as Rockaway, needs a correction from the ground (teenager to adults) up. Just walk the beach after any weekend and see the litter of beer cans and bottles from underage drinking.  Have some courage and write something meaningful for once. This is not a law enforcement problem.  This is a community problem. When will parents and local editors get their heads out of the sand.  When they need an attorney or will...

Coastal Thanks  Dear Editor: Just wanted to let you know that your article a couple of weeks back inspired Coastal Frozen Yogurt to participate in the 1010 WINS small business grant contest. We were actually chosen as one of the top 10 finalists with our business idea for the grant! Unfortunately, we were not the top winner (we still received a Canon Printer for being top 10- so not a total bust).         “Lizzmonade” was the overall winner, you may have seen her lemonade stand up at the Riis Park bizarre last summer. Overall, it was a great experience and we had the opportunity to meet and...

SAFETY PLEASE

Dear Editor: As a lifelong Broad Channel and Rockaway resident I am thrilled to see the progress and rebuilding going on all around us after Sandy.  I truly believe that years from now when we look back to the storm and the days after, with the notable exception of the tragic loss of life of some of our neighbors, we will focus on the positives i.e. how we came together and helped each other out and to the improvements we’ve made and continue to make, be it the new boardwalk, reinforced infrastructure, new stormproof houses and much better overall preparedness.  With that in mind I understand...

GET RID OF THE NO U-TURN

Get Rid Of The No U-Turn Dear Editor: The 3-17 issue of The Rockaway Times had a story entitled “It’s Back! NO U-TURN Sign Returns.” I have to agree with the Rockaway Times. “WHY” was this sign reinstalled? After reading this story I contacted the NYPD for accident statistics at this location on Beach 113th Street and Beach Channel Drive. In my opinion although accidents have occurred here the majority of them have nothing to do with not having a “NO U-TURN” sign. In 2015 there were ten accidents at this location and only two of the ten accidents were due to making a U-TURN. In 2016 there have...

THIS HAS TO STOP!

Dear Editor: I along with many residents are getting sick and tired of the person or persons who continue to destroy our bus shelters. I know for a fact the NYPD know about this but they can’t be everywhere when they are patrolling to protect our Community. I’m asking everyone, if you know who did this at Beach 105th Street and Rockaway Beach Blvd or happen to see the destruction of any other bus shelter in our community please inform the police. It’s your community. Danny Ruscillo Former President 100th. Precinct Community Council Misses The Old Days  Dear Editor: Time was when Rockaway was...

PROCESS NEEDS FIXING

Dear Editor: As a Delegate in the Participatory Budgeting Process in City Council District 32, I believe that the integrity of the PB process has been compromised. I expressed my concern and requested that Council Member Ulrich contact me to discuss this. I have not heard from him. Some PB Delegates were disturbed by the distribution of funds between communities in last year’s PB process. These concerns were raised early on by Delegates this year. There was discussion about ways that we might facilitate a more equitable outcome. One idea was to change the voting process and require that voters...

Shuttle Good For Numbers Dear Editor: On Tuesday February 9th Community Board 14 held their monthly meeting where the Economic Development Corporation (EDC) spoke about the free shuttle bus service which will be available for the Rockaway Ferry service in 2017. I would like to remind everyone that it was the E.D.C. under the leadership of Kyle Kimball who said to this community the “numbers” were not sufficient and the reason why the Rockaway Ferry was taken out of service. Now they are talking about the shuttle bus service and leaving out the east end of this peninsula which is not fair and...
