On May 29, District 27 proudly hosted its District Dash on the Rockaway Beach boardwalk, bringing together more than 100 students from public schools across the Rockaway peninsula for a one-mile run. This exciting wellness initiative showcased the district’s commitment to promoting physical activity while fostering a sense of community and school pride.

The event not only encouraged students to stay active, but also introduced them to a free, local space where they can continue to engage in healthy habits outside of school. The District Dash reinforced the idea that wellness extends beyond the classroom and can be part of students’ everyday lives. And leading by example was District 27’s own Superintendent David Norment, who completed the one-mile run/walk alongside the students.

District 27 remains dedicated to educating the whole child, recognizing that student success is deeply connected to both physical and mental well-being. Events like the District 27 Dash highlight the importance of movement, resilience, and positive lifestyle choices, helping students build lifelong habits that support their overall health.
