With the big birthday just one month away, it is time to break out the Stars & Stripes, Uncle Sam, and Lady Liberty to adorn your home or business with patriotic pride. The Rockaway Times is pleased to announce the America 250 Decorating Contest.
From today until June 26, you can recommend a home or business in Rockaway for recognition. Send an email with the address and a photograph to mail@rockawaytimes.com by the end of the day on Friday, June 26. Include “America 250 Decorating Contest” in the subject line of the email. Nominated homes will be evaluated in various categories, including Best Small House, Best Large House, and Best Apartment Window/Balcony. Business categories include Best Window Display and Best Interior. For inspiration, see the photos of some who have already gotten started (also up for nomination)!
Judging will occur during the last weekend in June with the results announced in The Rockaway Times’ special America 250 edition on July 2. In addition to being recognized in the paper and online, a top prize of $250 will be awarded to the best overall home. In each category, multiple winners will receive patriotic t-shirts from The Rockaway Times.
“Rockaway is a very patriotic community. You see it in the flags flown on our telephone poles and the beach, the great attendance for the Memorial Day parade and 9/11 ceremony, and in the number of our residents who are in the military or are first responders,” Rockaway Times co-publisher Paul King said. “It seemed entirely appropriate to celebrate that patriotism with this community contest on America’s 250th birthday.”
