Dear Editor:
Your article about Freemasons planning a location in Rockaway might be placed in context of the economic conditions as well as the crash of 1929.Masons are linked to business and community.
Rockaway saw an influx of city workers purchasing beach locations since their union jobs income were secure. This labor population might not engender the ideas that would support a Freemason presence thus the establishment of a lodge was abandoned.
My family arrived in 1929.
