John Powers-Velasquez and Julia Carey of Belle Harbor are pleased to announce their engagement.
Julia, a graduate of The Catholic University of America and a nurse practitioner student at St. John Fisher University, is the daughter of Craig and Regina (Erhard) Carey of Belle Harbor.
John, a graduate of Iona College and a former professional rugby player, is the son of Mary Patricia Powers of Belle Harbor.
Both are third-generation Belle Harbor residents and have been friends since childhood. John popped the question during a trip to Charleston, SC.
