On Flag Day, June 14, at 2 p.m., Callie’s and the Rockaway Republican Club will place a plaque on the flagpole to honor a Rockaway resident who fell in battle. This year’s honoree is Lt. James O’Brien of Beach 130th Street who died heroically in WWII. Previous honorees were Private First Class John McGonigal Jr. (Vietnam) and Lance Corporal Michael Glover (Iraq).
