Bon Voyage to the Rockaway Times columnist Kailey Aiken, winner of a National Geographic expedition to Greenland. Kailey earned the excursion on the cruise ship Endurance by winning the Best Written Story award in a national competition by Planet Forward, the “premier venue for college environmental journalism.” Ironically, it was a surfing trip to the tropics that landed Kailey an adventure in the Arctic. Beach 116th Street will have a watchful eye. In a Monday meeting at Rogers, Captain Sachi Singh of the 100th Precinct announced there will be a beat cop on the block from Tuesdays to Sundays, 11 a.m. to 2:30 a.m., to help keep patrons safe. The meeting was arranged by Councilwoman Joann Ariola’s office, the Beach 116th Merchants Association, and the Rockaway Civic Association.

With the future of Aqueduct in mind, our former Senator Joe Addabbo wrote that the site must get more than just housing. They also need better infrastructure, new schools, sustainable jobs, retail stores, parks and cultural venues… the same things Rockaway asked for ahead of the building boom in Edgemere and Far Rockaway. It’s common sense no matter where you build.
