We don’t visit the Upper West Side or Park Slope often so it’s hard to find a fan of Mayor Bill de Blasio and now sports fans throughout the City have another reason to sneer at the mayor. He’s the first mayor in a hundred years to hold office and not celebrate a major championship by New York teams. Instead of embracing the team of his adopted city, he continued to cheer for the Bostin Red Sox, a tone-deaf move among many of his tone-deaf moves. (Remember he took a boat to Rockaway soon after canceling the ferry? Remember his car was caught speeding soon after talking up Vision Zero. And remember he ran for President?)

Before it gets too dark and cold, this is a great time of year to take photos so you’ll be ready for the annual Rockaway Times Photo Contest. We always accept pics for our Local Color page (when we have room), but keep in mind there’ll be a contest in a few months.

Connolly’s Bar remains on the market at $6 mil. The site includes three properties. The latest whisper is that a sale is close and that the bar will remain and not be lost to condos or another development. Here’s hoping the iconic neighborhood pub lives on.

Brian O’Connell, and others, sent us amazing but disheartening photos of Riis Park during this week’s high tides. The ocean rolled up and onto the boardwalk around Bay 3 and 4 and at the other end, Bay 14, as well.  When The Army Corps was putting together the Reformulation Plan, the Feds overseeing Riis and Fort Tilden, were not interested in beach protection. Riis Park is an open side door to Neponsit and Belle Harbor and flood water will find its way (See photo on Page 11).
