Our yoga studies teach us about the “chakras” or energy centers that spiral their way up the spine and emanate rays of light - colors of the rainbow.  (Like the colors on the wall from the sun going through a clear prism.) Each one has a different meaning, issue associated with it, affirmation, etc. The qualities of our thoughts directly affect how the chakras function, affecting our physical, mental and emotional health.               

Repeating positive affirmations associated with the “chakras” can help to reset the balance of these energy centers and move the energy through our bodies to balance us and make us feel good. It’s the same idea as “daily gratitudes” I have written about many times in this column. Being grateful for everyday things like a hot shower or our comfortable warm bed, family, friends, pets - every single day - saying thank you for the food we eat, etc., continuously, gives us a sense of well-being and joy. Not a one-time thing - but all of the time. 

Same with positive affirmations. I always say, “what we do, say, think, feel become a part of us.” Almost makes us who we are on one level. So if we repeat gratitudes all of the time, if we repeat positive affirmations all of the time, they come to affect how we feel and think. Personally, I feel happier, lighter, more even and balanced. It has become a way of living and I am sharing it with you because it has made a profound difference in the way I wake up in the morning. 

These are the positive intentions associated with the “chakras.” You can bring these into your daily life as they are stated or create your own. They provide a powerful focus on wholeness - solid and sure. They also remind us that we are connected because of these energies. When I practice meditation on my chakra centers, I ask for balance and ease - harmonizing the body’s energies and prana (life force energy).  

I have. I am safe, secure, grounded.

I feel. I am free to be me.

I can. I am the source of my own power.

I love. I am compassionate. I forgive myself.

I speak. I listen to my inner sound.

I see. I am in the flow. I rely on my inner guidance.

I know. I am you, you are me, we are one.

 As we begin “our season” here in our most beautiful place, take a moment here and there to listen to the sights, smells and sounds outside - waves crashing on shore, singing plovers - feeling connected to Mother Earth. Trace the energy centers from the lowest part of the spine up through the crown of the head asking for balance and lightness. And then connect the inner energies to the energy of our Mother Earth. 

May you be happy. May you be free. May you be grateful. May you be compassionate. May you let go of things that do not serve you. May you have inner peace.
