Celebrating Easter Around the Rock


He is Risen. Sunday, April 4 marks the Holy Day of Easter. For those celebrating, there will be plenty of options for services, food and fun.

For those looking to attend Easter Mass, churches on the peninsula are ready to serve this weekend. As advertised in The Rockaway Times, on Good Friday, April 2, St. Francis de Sales in Belle Harbor will have a morning prayer at 9 a.m. and Stations of the Cross in the church at noon and outdoors in the prayer garden across the street at 7 p.m. On Holy Saturday, there will be a morning prayer at 9 p.m., confessions at noon and an Easter vigil at 8 p.m. On Easter Sunday, there will be a special sunrise Mass at 6 a.m. in the prayer garden, and Mass in the church at 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and noon.

As advertised last week, at St. Camillus on Beach 99th Street, on Good Friday, there will be a morning prayer at 9 a.m., a Solemn Celebration of the Lord’s Passion at 3 p.m. and Stations of the Cross at 7 p.m. On Holy Saturday, there will be a morning prayer at 9 a.m. and an Easter Vigil at 7:30 p.m. On Easter Sunday, there will be Mass at St. Camillus at 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., and at St. Virgilius in Broad Channel at 10 a.m.

For those looking to eat out, Bungalow Bar is hosting an Easter brunch from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner specials start at 4 p.m. Seating is limited so call 718-945-2100 to reserve. Several other local restaurants will have special menus for the day. Check in with your favorites to inquire.

For those looking for some fun for the family, there are some options. On Beach 129th on Saturday, April 3, Callie’s will be hosting an Easter Egg Hunt from noon untll 2 p.m. The Easter Bunny will be on site and there will be free ice cream for the kids. Also on Saturday, at the Hammels Playground on Beach 84th Street, there will be free Easter baskets and candy bags for kids at an Easter grab and go event.

On Easter Sunday, House on the Rock Church will be hosting a service on the boardwalk at Beach 94th Street at 11 a.m. There will be free Easter bags with goodies for those up to 13, cookies for all and free raffles to win prizes.
