All Decked Out

Some Rockaway homeowners may consider building a new deck. Decks can add to the value of a property – especially if they look nice and/or if they provide wheelchair or baby carriage accessibility. In the past, the choice of deck material was limited to various forms of wood: cedar, pressure treated, etc. Recently, a new composite material has become available which many people are using. This composite which is made of wood and plastic has assorted names like “TREX,” or “VERANDA,” or others. Please note that most of these building materials are backordered with long wait times due to the pandemic. My friend just waited three months for a delivery of TREX.

The promotional material for the products represents that it’s splinter free, doesn’t warp, doesn’t need sanding or staining or painting, resists moisture and sunlight, requires minimal maintenance – usually just hot water and soap with a mop and bucket – or even just a cold-water hose! Further, there are long term warranties available on the product, and it is used in many public places like Mount Rushmore, and the Florida Everglades, etc. I know people who have just installed this material and they are happy with it, thus far. They say that it is smooth, soft, and slip resistant – they can walk barefoot on it. It is pretty, yet strong. Call me. Love, Robin
