Two lucky Neponsit boys who got pulled out a little too far into the ocean on their paddle boards on Saturday, July 30, are safe thanks to the actions of some quick acting heroes.
Just before 2 p.m. on Saturday, the two 13-year-old boys on paddle boards drifted a little too far out, and after an exhausting attempt to get back to shore, they alerted lifeguards that they were in trouble by waving their paddles.
As an emergency call was put in and first responders were on their way to Beach 135th Street, lifeguard Amber Walters swam out to get one of the victims on the paddle board. She was soon followed by Firefighter Mark Aiken, who was off duty at the time, and then Firefighter John Evans who was among those who responded to the scene. Together they helped bring both boys back to shore unharmed.
Job well done by all!
