Jamaica Bay Shorebird Festival

On Saturday, August 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., head to the Jamaica Day Wildlife Refuge for a day of appreciating local shorebirds. Enjoy birdwatching at the East Pond, a hike around the West Pond, a puppet show and more programming for kids and adults alike. Wear boots, bring binoculars. Skills Paddle

On Wednesday August 18 at 1:30 p.m., head to Riis Landing for a day of kayaking fun. Paddlers at every skill level will enjoy time on the water trying out new strokes or perfecting the standards. Bay House Paddle

On Thursday, August 19 at 10:30 a.m., head to Riis Landing for a kayaking adventure with lunch! Paddle the outgoing tide, land and enjoy lunch at a local eatery or bring your own lunch and eat by the kayaks. Return to Riis Landing on the flood tide.  Kayaks provided. Dress to get wet. On Monday at 6:30 p.m., join Helen Kilgallen for yoga on Beach 128th Street.

 

Yoga Bari Yoga

On Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:30 a.m., join Yoga Bari for yoga on the Beach 126th boardwalk

 

Yoga On the Beach w/ Sonia

Every Saturday at 10 a.m., under the gazebo on Beach 32nd Street, join Sonia for yoga practice combining meditation and movement. Bring sunscreen, yoga mat, water, towel, yoga blocks and yoga strap.

Kevin Campbell is back with yoga/human movement classes on Beach 104th Street at 8:30 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Head to the beach and get your om on.

 

Yoga by the Shore

Join Joann on the beach for Yoga postures, breathing practices, relaxation and meditation for all. Fridays at 9:30 a.m. in Riis Park Bay 12. Bring a towel or mat.

 

Yoga with Christine

Christine Walker offers Sunday 8:30am Yoga Flow on Sundays at 8:30am and Mondays at 7 p.m., plus meditative yin yoga at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, all on the Beach 126th boardwalk. Bring a mat or towel.

 

Zumba Under the Stars

Every Thursday through September, head to the Beach 108th hockey rink at 7:30 p.m. for Zumba with Lisa G. Enjoy this free dance workout.

 

Rockaway Running Club

Every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 a.m., meet on the boardwalk at Beach 126th Street to join for a 3-mile run to Beach 97th Street and back. About 9/10 min mile pace but all levels welcome to run/jog or walk. For questions, reach out to @maegreed_  on Instagram.

 

AmpSurf Adaptive Surf Clinics

AmpSurf’s season of offering surf lessons to amputees, those with special needs and more, has begun. Each series takes place at Beach 67th Street starting at 8:30 a.m. Dates include August 14 & 28. Covid Testing

On Tuesdays, August 17, 24 and 31, Eric Ulrich's office (114-12 Beach Channel Drive) will offer free self-swab Covid testing from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. No appointment needed.
