Sunrise Paddle

On Friday, September 3 at 6 a.m., head to the Floyd Bennett Field Seaplane Ramp and greet the day with an energetic paddle to see the sun rise. Kayaks, personal floatation devices, and paddles will be provided.  Space is limited; call 718-758-3671 to make a reservation.

On Saturday, September 4 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., meet up at Rockaway's Veterans Memorial on Rockaway Beach Blvd between B94-B95 St. Come to draw and hear about the history and artists behind the two larger than life bronze statues. Dedicated to war veterans who made the supreme sacrifice, these monuments are especially meaningful this week. Bring pad/pen/paint/chair. Free and open to all.

 

Rockaway Film Festival

Free sunset films at O'Donohue Park, Beach 14th St &, Seagirt Blvd. and Beach 17th and the Boardwalk  On Saturday, September 4, from 7-10:00 p.m. “Countryman” will be shown. Tickets are free and can be reserved at www.JBRPC.org 

 

Back to School Festival

On Sunday, September 5, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., join Council Member Selvena Brooks-Powers and NYC Parks as they present this fun day of family activities at O’Donohue Park. The event will feature games, obstacle course, crafts, music, Mounted Unit horses for photo-op, giveaways, and more.

On Wednesday, September 8, head to Riis Landing to join a Park Ranger for a paddle west along the Rockaway Peninsula for a picture-perfect sunset over Brooklyn. Kayaks, personal floatation devices, and paddles will be provided. Call 718-758-3671 to make a reservation.

 

Movies Under the Stars: Jaws

On Thursday, September 9 at 7:30 p.m., bring a blanket or chair and head to the Beach 94th Street Plaza to watch Jaws under the stars.

 

9/11 Tribute Park Ceremony

On Saturday, September 11, at 8:30 a.m., head to Tribute Park to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11 with the reading of the names, music and more.

On Monday at 6:30 p.m., join Helen Kilgallen for yoga on Beach 128th Street.

 

Yoga Bari Yoga

On Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:30 a.m., join Yoga Bari for yoga on the Beach 126th boardwalk

Join Joann on the beach for Yoga postures, breathing practices, relaxation and meditation for all. Fridays at 9:30 a.m. in Riis Park Bay 12. Bring a towel or mat.

Christine Walker offers Sunday 8:30am Yoga Flow on Sundays at 8:30am and Mondays at 7 p.m., plus meditative yin yoga at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, all on the Beach 126th boardwalk. Bring a mat or towel.

 

Zumba Under the Stars

Every Thursday through September 2, head to the Beach 108th hockey rink at 7:30 p.m. for Zumba with Lisa G. Enjoy this free dance workout.

 

Seaplane Ramp Kayaking

Every Saturday and Sunday at 9:30 a.m., head to the Seaplane Ramp at Floyd Bennett Field in

Brooklyn for a free kayaking for beginners’ program. Ages 6 and up welcome. Kayaks and lifejackets provided. Dress to get wet.

 

Rockaway Irish Festival

Save the date! The Rockaway Irish Festival is September 18 and 19. Head to St. Camillus (Beach 99th Street) between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. both days for a day of live Irish music, vendors, performances and more.
