Rock & Wrap It Toy Giveaway

On Friday, December 24 at 12 p.m., head to St. John Baptist Church (74-05 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) for a Christmas toy giveaway. Masks and social distancing required.

 

Far Rock Greek Council Christmas Party

On Friday, December 24 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Far Rock Greek Council is hosting the Tides of Joy Toy Drive and Holiday Party at 14-25 Central Ave. Kids can take photos with Santa, enjoy fun activities, music, games and more. All toy and monetary donations are welcome.

 

Covid Testing

FRANC is offering free saliva covid testing and vaccines at Church of God Christian Academy Gym (1336 Central Ave) in Far Rockaway. Monday, December 27 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday, December 29 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., plus Wednesday, January 5 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, January 8 from 10 a.m.. to 2 p.m.

 

Mulchfest

It’ll soon be time to toss the Christmas tree. NYC Parks is here to help repurpose your tree. Drop off your Christmas tree at any Mulchfest location during park hours between December 26 and January 9. The local drop off is at Beach 94th Street and Shore Front Parkway.

 

100th Precinct Community Council Meeting

New Year’s Resolution Walk

On Sunday, January 2 at 10 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to join in a meditation on promises, plans, and wishful thinking. We’ll set new intentions for ourselves, and leave some behind creating our vision of an urban National Park. Blood Drive

On Sunday, January 2 from 8:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., St. Camillus Church (99-15 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) is hosting a blood drive. Walk-ins welcome but appointments preferred. For more info and to register, head to www.nybc.org 

 

PINE

On Saturday, January 8 at 3 p.m., meet on Beach 81st and the boardwalk for PINE. Pine is an installation conceived out of necessity to mourn in a time of compiling obstacles. It is a magical beach forest of repurposed trashed holiday spirit built from former Xmas trees. This outdoor experience will facilitate public grieving, commemoration, and regeneration during the pandemic, despite freezing temperatures. Dress warm and bring a blanket or beach chair.
