Land Use Committee Meeting

Team Sister Strong Fundraiser

On Saturday, January 22 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., head to RBQ on Beach 98th to help support the O’Sullivan family’s Team Sister Strong fundraiser for LLS. Jerry O’Sullivan will be behind the bar while Kevin Carlton plays some tunes.

 

PINE

On Saturday, January 22 at 3:30 p.m., meet on Beach 81st and the boardwalk for PINE. Pine is an installation conceived out of necessity to mourn in a time of compiling obstacles. It is a magical beach forest of repurposed trashed holiday spirit built from former Xmas trees. This outdoor experience will facilitate public grieving, commemoration, and regeneration during the pandemic, despite freezing temperatures. Dress warm and bring a blanket or beach chair. Winter Survival

On Wednesday, January 26 at 2 p.m. head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to learn different survival techniques of local animals as well as tips to keep yourself safe when exploring outdoors in the wintertime! This is a family friendly activity. Wear comfortable footwear and dress for the weather.  Reservations required, call 718-318-4340.

 

Park Trivia!

On Sunday, January 30 at 10 a.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to join a park ranger for some  Gateway and the National Park Service trivia. Whether you’re new to Gateway or an old pro, there will be prizes for all. Space will be limited, so register by calling (718) 318-4340. 

 

Valentine’s Day Half Marathon & 5K

Save the Date! On Saturday, February 12, the Rockaway Track Club is hosting a Valentine’s half marathon and 5K. Check in is at Rogers (205 Beach 116th Street) at 8 a.m. 5K starts on boardwalk at 9 a.m. on Beach 116th Street. The 5-k course is a 3.1-mile loop with start and finish on 116th street. The 1/2 marathon starts at 9:45 a.m. on the boardwalk. This course is 2 identical loops totaling 13.1 miles with ample water spots. Medals and T shirts for all participants. Jingo The Santana Tribute Band
