Spring Dune Planting

On Saturday, April 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., join RISE at Beach 42nd Street and the boardwalk for a dune planting event with grasses and shrubs. All ages welcome. Students looking to do community service hours are encouraged to bring paperwork from their schools. Registration is not required but is suggested. Register at: www.riserockaway.org/rise/events/

 

Community Cleanup

On Sunday, April 3 at 10 a.m., join Rock Lean n Clean under the bridge by Beach Channel High School for a cleanup. Gloves and bags provided. Community service hours available. For more info, follow @Rockleannclean on Instagram.

 

Rockaway Makers Market

On Sunday, April 10 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., head to the Rockaway Brewing Co. (415 Beach 72nd Street) to shop from local vendors and artisans.

Spring Half Marathon or 5K

Save the date. On Saturday, April 16, Rockaway Track Club is hosting a spring half marathon and 5K. Check in at Cuisine by Claudette (143 Beach 116th Street) starting at 8 a.m. The runs begin at 9:30 a.m. on the boardwalk. Medals, t-shirts and smoothies for all participants. Free Kids Surf Lessons

On Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., join Lou Harris on Beach 109th for free surfing lessons for kids and teens ages 4 to 16. Register online at: https://bsarockaway.org/    

 

Fitness Class at Rise

On Mondays at 11 a.m., join Ann Fosteris for a free fitness class at RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd). All levels welcome. Masks required.

 

Wildflower Wednesdays

Every Wednesday through April 20 at 3 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to embark on a quest to spot and welcome all the blooms that Jamaica Bay has to offer. All ages are welcome. This is an all-weather walk, so dress for the conditions. Masks required. Space will be limited, so register by calling 718-318-4320.

 

Thursday Chair Yoga

On Thursdays at 10:30 a.m., certified yoga instructor Ruth Graves is offering a free chair yoga class at RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd. All are welcome! From beginners to seasoned practitioners.

The Spring Semester at the Peninsula Adult Learning Center is beginning soon. GED (High School Equivalency), ESOL(English for Speakers of Other Languages), Adult Basic Education. Aging Mastery Program

Are you 50+ and want to learn something new? Free to District 32 Rockaway residents, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from May 10 to June 9 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. virtually on Zoom, Kingsborough is hosting a 10-session program based on the National Aging Mastery Program designed to offer participants the skills and tools needed to achieve measurable improvements in managing health, remaining economically secure, and contributing actively in society. Topics: Navigating Longer Lives, Exercise & You, Sleep, Healthy Eating and Hydration, Financial Fitness, Medication Management, Advance Planning, Healthy Relationships, Fall Prevention and Community Engagement.
