Spring Half Marathon or 5K

On Saturday, April 16, Rockaway Track Club is hosting a spring half marathon and 5K. Check in at Cuisine by Claudette (143 Beach 116th Street) starting at 8 a.m. The runs begin at 9:30 a.m. on the boardwalk. Medals, t-shirts and smoothies for all participants. The NPS - A History

On Saturday, April 16 at 1 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge and join a ranger to explore the history and mission of the National Park Service.

 

Full Pink Moon

On Sunday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge for a hike with a ranger to hear about the traditional name for this moon and look for signs of the color it represents. All ages are welcome. All-weather walk, Masks required. Space will be limited, so register by calling 718-381-4340.

 

Earth Day Community Planting

On Friday, April 22, head to the RISE Center (58-03 Rockway Beach Blvd.)  for a spring planting to help make your community a better place! Transplant and plant native shoreline shrubs. This event is rain or shine, so please dress accordingly and expect to get your hands dirty. All ages. Kids can receive community service hours.

 

Team Up to Clean Up

Save the date! On Saturday, April 30 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., there will be a Broad Channel Beautification Day to clean up the center malls long Cross Bay Blvd. Bring a broom and dustpan. Free Kids Surf Lessons

On Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., join Lou Harris on Beach 109th for free surfing lessons for kids and teens ages 4 to 16. Register online at: https://bsarockaway.org/   

 

Fitness Class at Rise

On Mondays at 11 a.m., join Ann Fosteris for a free fitness class at RISE (58-03 Rockaway Beach Blvd). All levels welcome. Masks required.

 

Wildflower Wednesdays

Every Wednesday through April 20 at 3 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge to embark on a quest to spot and welcome all the blooms that Jamaica Bay has to offer. All ages are welcome. This is an all-weather walk, so dress for the conditions. Masks required. Space will be limited, so register by calling 718-318-4320.

 

The Heart of Rockaway Meeting

Aging Mastery Program

Are you 50+ and want to learn something new? Free to District 32 Rockaway residents, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from May 10 to June 9 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. virtually on Zoom, Kingsborough is hosting a 10-session program based on the National Aging Mastery Program designed to offer participants the skills and tools needed to achieve measurable improvements in managing health, remaining economically secure, and contributing actively in society.
