Native Neighbors Gallery Opening

On Friday, May 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., head to the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy Office (114-04 Beach Channel Dr.) to celebrate the gallery opening of Native Neighbors, featuring botanical watercolor illustrations of Jamaica Bay and Rockaway’s native plants and their pollinators by Valentina Gallup Salerni. Belle Harbor Cleanup

On Saturday, May 7 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., meet at the beach wall at Beach 134th Street to join the Belle Harbor Property Owners Annual Beach cleanup. They’ll be cleaning the beach from 130th to 141st. Limited bags provided, volunteers recommended to bring their own. Community service hours available.


It’s My Park Day: Bayswater

On Saturday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., join the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation at Bayswater Point State Park (meet at 14-79 Point Breeze Place) for planting native shrubs in a small meadow restoration area and a beach clean-up. Rockaway Rides Visioning Committee

Want to bring a program to Rockaway that offers free or affordable electric shuttle rides around the peninsula? It may become a reality with Circuit Rides but your help is needed. Offer input at one of three community meetings from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. 1) Monday, May 9 at Beach Dune Eats (45-19 Rockaway Beach Blvd.) 2)Tuesday, May 10 at the NY Career Training School (1032 Beach 20th Street) or 3) Wednesday, May 11 at tbe Rockaway Hotel (108-10 Rockaway Beach Dr.) RSVP at

Hatha Yoga with Soupy

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays starting May 9, head to Beach 104th at 8:30 a.m. for yoga on the beach with Kevin Soupy Campbell.


Shape Up NYC: Cardio Punch

Every Saturday through June 25, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., join at Beach 59th Street and the boardwalk for a free Cardio Punch fitness class presented by NYC Parks. Bring a towel and water.


Chair Yoga at the Temple

On Mondays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m., join Christine Walker for Chair Yoga at Ohab Zedek on Beach 135th and Rockaway Beach Blvd. Classes are on a donation basis. For more info, contact Christine at 516-503-4249


My Turn Program

Free classes are available to New York state residents age 60 and older through Kingsborough Community College. Audit over 400 classes online, hybrid and in person. Take Classes like art, history, health education, literature, theater, foreign languages, tourism, science and much more. Summer term 6/22 – 8/11.  Application deadline 6/15/22.
