Municipal Credit Union (MCU), the New York Metro’s largest credit union, today celebrated the opening of its newest branch at 6820 Rockaway Beach Boulevard in Arverne by the Sea on Monday, August 10, marking a new chapter for financial access on the Rockaway peninsula following years of bank branch closures.
Located on a site left vacant after financial institutions exited the area, MCU’s arrival brings full-service personal banking back to the community in an area that has previously been underbanked. While many routine banking transactions now happen online or through mobile apps, access to trusted, in-person financial guidance remains important, particularly when making life’s bigger financial decisions.
At the Arverne branch, members can open checking and savings accounts, apply for consumer and mortgage loans, receive financial counseling and access personalized guidance from MCU’s local team to help them make confident financial decisions. Minimum deposits are not required, and accounts and credit cards are fee-free.
Assemblyman Khaleel Anderson played a big role in MCU coming to Arverne after Chase closed. “It’s so, so exciting,” he said. “Anybody can become a member.”
