Mother Nature Can’t Stop RBVL’s Fantastic Finish

A beautiful, hot summer day brought 68 teams and more than 1,000 people to Bay 9 in Riis Park for the Rockaway Beach Volleyball League playoffs. Intense heat could not slow down the action; a massive thunderstorm could only delay the drama of Super Saturday on August 8. In the end, it was a great finish to the 2026 RBVL season with 10 champions crowned.

In the premier Ocean Division, Bungalow Bar outlasted Storage Place to claim the championship. The match lasted five games with Bungalow winning the decider 21-17. These teams finished one game apart in the regular season, so the tight final match was a fitting conclusion. Bungalow edged a tough Team Bear Claw to make it to the finals while Storage topped The Wharf in the semifinals.

Wise Clock Café won the Ocean Breeze Division by defeating the Melons. The Melons made it to the final match by knocking off Deirdre Maeve’s Freaky Tiki. Wise Clock, the regular season champs at 36-7, beat Kiss My Ace and Batesy’s BBQ en route to the finals.

The Wave Division champions are Pizza on the Point, who upset first-place 5 Rock in the finals. Pizza on the Point edged The Cabana of Long Beach in the semis while 5 Rock topped the team from a local Mexican joint, Pico.

Leo’s Tavern owns the Beach Division title after beating Federation. Federation advanced to the finals by defeating the team with the best record in all of RBVL, Beach Volley Dogg (39-11). Leo’s got past Kerry Hills in the semis.

Beach Physical Therapy took home the prize in the Beach Breeze Division thanks to a finals victory over the Rincon Gringos. The Gringos knocked off top-seed Danger Zone before falling to Beach Physical Therapy.

In the Boardwalk Division, top seed The New Wharf held serve against the third-seeded Burn Fitness to win the championship. New Wharf earned a first round bye while Burn defeated Spiced Pickles and #2 seed Big Dig Energy to qualify for the finals.

Boarders Surf Shop bested top-seeded Harbor Light to shine in the Sun Division. Boarders beat the Sun Setters en route to the finals while Harbor Light beat Uncle Charles The Cosmo Daddy in the penultimate match.

In the Sun Ray Division, the always solid Connolly’s squad fell in five games to That’s What She Sets. Connolly’s knocked off DysFUNctional in the semis. She Sets topped Last Call.

In a bracket filled with upsets, second-seeded Beach House made its claim to being the best team in the Moon Division by beating the BHYC Social Yachties. The champs made it to the finals by beating the #6 seed, Overserved. The Yachties, ranked fifth, advanced by upsetting the top-seeded Beach Bums. Anything can happen in an RBVL August.

Conversely, in the Star Division, the chalk held as the top two seeds, EZ Company and Irish Setters faced off with the regular season champs (EZ) prevailing. The Setters beat Serves ‘Em Right in the semis while EZ Company topped Baranhas by SEODesignLab.
