The community is mourning the loss of Gary Robinson, known to many as “Mr. Goody,” the co-owner of beloved Jamaican restaurant Goody’s BBQ Chicken & Ribs in Arverne. He was 68.
Many learned the news of Robinson’s passing on Monday, June 22, as the gates were down on Goody’s, with signs saying “Rest in Power Mr. Goody, aka Gary. 1958-2026” and “Thank you to our wonderful community for your condolences. As we take this time to honor Gary, Goody’s will be closed until further notice.”
On Tuesday afternoon, Goody’s opened briefly as the Robinson family provided free food to the community and held a vigil in memory of Gary, as he would have wanted.
Robinson was a husband, son, father, brother and uncle. He loved to golf, loved the New York Knicks and happily celebrated their championship win this month, and loved serving the community. He and his wife, Joan, opened Goody’s in 1989. Many will remember him for his kindness, generosity and love for the community.
