Rockaway and Broad Channel are patriotic communities, not because the American flag is ubiquitous on homes and telephone poles but because citizens here live their love of country by voting, participating in civics, and serving in military and first-responder roles. America 250 gives the Rockaway Republican Club – and all citizens regardless of political party – the chance to celebrate that love of country.
The RRC has two major America 250 events leading up to Independence Day. On Wednesday, July 1, the club will host Sunset Cocktails: A Toast to America. The celebration will run from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on the deck at The Wharf. Special guests include Sid Rosenberg, who hosts the #1 morning talk show on WABC radio and was just inducted to the NYS Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame, and notable Republican candidates. Sunset Cocktails costs $75 per person and includes hors d’oeuvres and an open bar.
On Friday, July 3, the RRC will host a family friendly Patriots’ Parade from the Boardwalk to Beach 129th Street. Participants will muster on the boardwalk at Beach 126th Street at 8:15 a.m. Families are encouraged to bring their children, wear their red, white and blue, and bring flags, banners or signs. The patriots will march to the church on Beach 129th Street in plenty of time for a great beach day.
Even though these are Rockaway Republican Club events, everyone who loves America is welcome to join, regardless of party. America comes first!
Sunset Cocktails and the Patriots’ Parade are a continuation of the year-long celebration of America 250 by the RRC. Last month, the club hosted Patriot Trivia Night at Jameson’s. On Flag Day, they had a celebration at Callie’s that included a memorial for local World War II hero Lt. James O’Brien. The celebrations will culminate with the RRC’s Christmas party in December that will recognize Washington’s famous crossing of the Delaware on December 25, 1776.
