The Rockaway Beach Sandcastle Contest is back! Councilwoman Joann Ariola is once again picking up the shovel and hosting, while NYC Parks and The Rockaway Times will lend a helping hand. On Sunday, August 2, bring your own pails and shovels and head to Beach 109th Street to get your hands sandy!
Registration takes place from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Beach 109th, with the contest starting promptly at 11 a.m. Participants will have two hours to create a castle or sculpture like a whale, a dragon or anything that comes to their imagination. After all, this contest will be judged on creativity, detail and originality. There will be three age categories including 9 and under, 10 to 18 and 19 and up, with first, second and third place prizes for the winners of each. More details will be available next week, but in the meantime, save the date!
